Southern Home Services Services: Home Remodeling
There are many reasons why a person may want to remodel their home. A home remodel provides resell value to a property and serves as a great opportunity to correct any damage that has occurred to the house. However, remodeling a home can take time. It's important for a homeowner to have a clear estimate of the length of time a remodel may require, as their house may be under construction for many months.
The first thing to keep in mind when remodeling a home is that the project can be as comprehensive or as specific as the homeowner wants. It can range from a single room to the entire property. Larger scale remodels often require changing out the siding, windows, and roofing of the home, most often to upgrade these fixtures to more energy efficient options. A full scale remodel can take as long as a year or more, as the entire home will experience construction.
With that being said, a remodel of only the kitchen could take as long as six months or as few as three. Kitchen remodels require the replacement of appliances, cabinets, and countertops, as well as the installation of backsplash behind the counter and new flooring. If a home is particularly old, it can take longer to replace old plumbing and wiring.
Bathroom remodels are similar to kitchen remodels in that they involve the same elements, but take only two to three months. This is because most bathrooms are smaller in size and typically only involve plumbing; moving bathroom fixtures around isn't a difficult task. However, if the bathroom is on the second floor, care must be taken not to damage the room underneath.
Adding additional rooms to the home can take up to two months, but this is actually one of the faster remodels available. The only way to know for sure is to speak with the contractor who will give a proper estimate. However, any experienced contractor will complete the room (including the electrical work) before attaching it to the rest of the home.
When planning a home remodel, speak with the contractor during all phases of the process. Communication is critical in order to keep tabs on exactly what is happening during a remodel.
